We love 3-D archery shoots. And we hope you do to. During this years 3-D shoot schedule, bowhuntinginfo will be visiting a new bow hunting or archery club each week. We will let you know how we liked the club, about some of the members and on good days, how we shoot. If you would like us to visit, make sure you post your archery shoot schedule and drop us an invitation. We can't promise we will make it, but we will be shooting somewhere every weekend. Broken Arrow Bowhunting Club 3-D Shoot

Another bowhunting shoot! The morning wasn't looking too promising. It stormed all night, the weather man was predicting thunderstorms in the morning and in the afternoon as well and it was raining. I had only gotten about four hours of sleep and was on my way to another archery 3-D shoot. This shoot was in central Ohio, at the Broken Arrow Bowhunting Club, in Newark, Ohio. The club is situated north of Newark, Ohio and south of St. Louisville, Ohio, on Rt 13. The land is rolling, and the club boarders a small river that adds a lot to the 3-D target range. Broken Arrow boasts both an indoor and outdoor range as well as a covered picnic pavilion. Additionally, Broken Arrow has access to a complete pro shop, Broken Arrow Archery, run by Sue and Bob Martin.
The Broken Arrow club started simply because Bob and Sue got interested in shooting, and before you knew it, they had a club. Sue told me that club membership, in those early days, consisted of buying a seltzer bail.
The weather cleared before I got to the club, and it looked like it was going to be a nice day. I set up our display, and registered to shoot. I was determined to do better than I had the week before. The 3-D layout was situated in a wooded area that was bordered by the river. Broken Arrow, used a combination of McKenzie and Rinehart Targets. Some of the targets were actually in the edge of the river including a croc target. |
Most targets were placed at 25 to 35 yards with a couple out to a good forty yards. Broken Arrow had a wide variety of targets including a hog, beaver, cougar, Bison and Grizzly Bear. The course was well layed out and optimized for shooter safety.
I had opportunity to shoot with a great bunch of guys. All of whom, were very polite while helping me find my errant arrows. Most snide remarks about my shooting were kept low, and they pretended to enjoy their searches for my arrows. The rain held off until most of the shooters were finished, but at about 3:00 PM we had a real thumper of a storm come through. I was working with a shooter, testing some equipment when we almost got conked on the head by falling limbs. Never a dull moment!
