We love 3-D archery shoots. And we hope you do to. During this years 3-D shoot schedule, bowhuntinginfo will be visiting a new bow hunting or archery club each week. Conneaut Fish & Game 3-D Shoot & IBO Qualifier

What a beautiful day! The sky was clear, and supposed to stay that way. The temperature was going to climb into the low 70's. It was a perfect day for a 3-D shoot. The club we visited this week was Conneaut Fish & Game club in Conneaut, Ohio. Conneaut is about 60 miles east of Cleveland, tucked up right against lake Erie. The Club is a multipurpose sportsman's club that provides rifle and pistol ranges, trap, a trout pond, 3-D archery range, camping, and one of the best Steelhead rivers in America. They have a small but very nice club house that overlooks the trap field.
The Conneaut shoot was a 2 day IBO qualifier. We got there early to avoid the rush. We shot the course before most of the shooters were signed up, and what a nice course it was too. The course meandered through the woods, and along the bank of The Conneaut river. The forest floor was really beginning to come alive with new growth. So was the wildlife. While we were on the course, we saw a young Tom turkey.
There were, of course, 30 3-D targets. Most of the targets were Rinehart targets with a sprinkling of McKenzie targets thrown in. The course was a little wet, and we were glad to have had boots with us. There were no elevated stands, although the layout was diverse enough that there we a number of "downhill" shots.

The course was well laid out. There was never any danger of one group of archers be endangered by another group at another target. It is interesting to see the different types of shooters that come to these shoots. A couple of weeks ago, we saw a very high proportion of recurve and long bow shooters, but this week, I think we only counted 3 of them, and two of them we shooting with me. As one would expect at an IBO qualifier, there were some real shooters at this shoot. The Club offered a couple of novelties as well. A Ping-Pong ball, and a dinosaur. Bill and Todd Giffin, of Bullseye Archery and American Whitetail Trophies, also brought along a new invention called the Wing Shot Launcher, which launches an eight inch disk into the air at about 10 feet. A good number of the archers took their turn at wacking those disks( or at least trying to wack them).
The shoot seemed to run very smooth, thanks in great part to the Archery Director of the Club, Jim Campbell, and his help. The ladies providing the food had plenty on hand, and one could stuff oneself without even trying. As with many clubs, Conneaut Game & Fish, suffers from a lack of exposure. Jim, complained that most people in their own home town don't know of the club, let alone those in surrounding communities. But in spite of that, there was as good turnout for the shoot.
