Bowhunting Shoots Report |
We love 3-d archery shoots. And we hope you do to. During this years 3-D shoot schedule, bowhuntinginfo will be visiting a new bow hunting or archery club each week. We will let you know how we liked the club, about some of the members and on good days, how we shoot. If you would like us to visit, make sure you post your archery shoot schedule and drop us an invitation. We can't promise we will make it, but we will be shooting somewhere every weekend. Good shooting!
South Cuyahoga Bowhunters 3-D Shoot
It was cold, in the thirties, you could see your breath. It was wet, raining, not hard but that nagging constant drip of rain. The ground was slick due to the rain. And on top of it all, I came prepared for warmer weather. A typical bow hunting 3-D shoot in early April! Man it was Great! This was our first archery shoot of the spring, getting started a little late, but couldn't wait to get on the course. South Cuyahoga Sportsmen Association in North Royalton, Ohio, was our host. Jerret Spears, the archery coordinator, and Russ Recker the club President welcomed us with open arms. Anything we needed they provided. We were there to shoot(our real purpose), and to test out some new bowhunting equipment, which we will be writing about shortly. South Cuyahoga is beautifully situated on slightly rolling land with a free flowing creek running through the property. They also have nice little pond that members use for fishing and just relaxing around.
The layout of the 30 archery target 3-D couse was excellent. Great care was taken to make sure targets were situated in a way that shooters retrieving arrows were not endangered from shooters at other targets. South Cuyahoga used a combination of McKenzie and Rinehart targets. They even had a Rinehart 30 point buck target. I got buck fever just looking at it! Most targets where placed in the 20 to 35 yard range. Only one target was from an elevated platform.

In spite of the rain, everyone had a great time. All shooters were friendy and courteous. There was a very large contingent of recurve and stick bow archers as well. Russ told me there were about 20, but I swear, every time I turned around a traditional shooter was showing me up! I had the to opportunity to shoot with Bill Giffin, 2000 IBO World Champion of the Long bow. He was a pleasure to shoot with, and in spite of his expertise was kind enough not to criticize my shooting until I asked for help. What a chance to see a pro at work. South Cuyahoga's clubhouse was very nice. They had ample room to keep everyone dry before the shoot started, a full kitchen facility, where they kept everyone fed, and easy access to the warm-up archery range just behind the clubhouse.
South Cuyahoga is not limited to archers either. They have trap ranges and handgun ranges as well. If you are looking for a friendly club to join, or just a 3-D shoot, check out South Cuyahoga, they have their shoots posted in our shoots schedule. How did I shoot? Don't ask!
