Bowhunting Shoots Report |
We love 3-D archery shoots. And we hope you do to. During this years 3-D shoot schedule, bowhuntinginfo will be visiting a new bow hunting or archery club each week. We will let you know how we liked the club, about some of the members and on good days, how we shoot. If you would like to see a previous report look here. If you would like us to visit, make sure you post your archery shoot schedule and drop us an invitation. We can't promise we will make it, but we will be shooting somewhere every weekend. Good shooting!
Top Bow Archery - Michigan Bow Hunters Super 7
It is June 9th, and we are in Gladwin, Michigan
for one of the Michigan Bow Hunters District Three Super seven 3-D
shoots, held at Top Bow Archery and Taxidermy. It was a beautiful
day for a shoot. Temperature was in the low seventies, light
breeze, and bright sun. I was shooting with my two brothers which
made the shoot even better.
Top Bow Archery hosted the shoot with 28 McKenzie targets, including the new wolverine target and the gobbling turkey.
Top Bow is run by Tim and Pam Long. Tim and Pam founded the Archery shop and range in 1991. They house a complete pro shop for all your 3-D bow hunting and archery needs. This shoot was the fourth shoot in the Michigan Bow Hunters Super 7 shoot. Previous shoots were held at Sterling Sportsmens Club, in Sterling, MI; Nock Busters Archery Club; J & P Sporting Goods in West Branch, MI. The final three shoots will be held at Harrison Sportsmens Club, in Harrison, MI; Gladwin County Park, in Gladwin, MI and Houghton Lake Sportsmens Club in Houghton Lake, MI. For further information regarding these shoots you can contact Boyd Klenk from Michigan Bow Hunters at 989-654-3196, or contact Tim at Top Bow Archery. The Top Bow target range was very dry considering the amount of rain upper Michigan has had this spring. The course winds through medium hard wood and pine tree growth, with a clearing or two thrown in as well. The course is well laid out and boasts four raised platforms. These platforms are all fifteen feet plus in the air. Most of the raised platforms present two targets, so that more than twenty five percent of the targets are from a raised platform, simulating what most bowhunters experience in the real hunting world. |
Tim and Pam have recently undertaken a project to expand Top Bow Archery. The are currently building an addition that will add 2200 square feet to their pro-shop and range. The new range will have 13 lanes for indoor archery shooting. Top Bow routinely runs winter indoor archery spot leagues and spring 3-D leagues. The 3-D archery range is open all spring and summer to the public, with a drop box for shooters coming in after store hours. Top Bow also provides Archery Vision, an indoor video experience where multiple archers can shoot at projected images. Unlike, the Dart System, this system allows target arrows of all kinds and the images are projected over cardboard targets with the kill zones outlined, allowing hunters to review exactly their arrow placement between shots. Although archery is Tim's passion, Top Bow will soon be opening a gun shop and pistol range as well. And when Tim isn't wacking 3-D targets, running his shop, or going to other shoots, Tim does taxidermy as well. He has been doing taxidermy professionally for about five years, and is looking forward to the additional space that will be provided by the expansion to provide more work space for this work of love. If you would like for information about Top Bow Archery and Taxidermy you can visit them 430 E. M-61, Gladwin, MI., or call at 989-426-1883, or email them at TopBow2000@ejourney.com.
